Award-winning UK company Theatre-Rites creates beautiful and inspiring theatre for children, exploring complex issues such as the refugee situation, the environment, the financial world and neuroscience.
Their acclaimed touring and site-responsive productions stir the imagination and stimulate thought, delivering productions for, among others: Schauspielhaus Bochum, Germany (The Incredible Tale of Robot Boy), London’s Sadler’s Wells and The Barbican, Manchester International Festival, and the Ruhrtriennale Festival in Germany.
The group collaborates with diverse artists, artforms and non-arts community partners. The Incredible Tale of Robot Boy was initially a research project, funded by Wellcome Trust, with designers, puppeteers and neuroscientists from Kings College London.
Theatre-Rites’ work, under Artistic Director Sue Buckmaster, is regularly inspired by ‘object-led’ theatre that celebrates the power of visuals, puppetry and animation and is devised in collaboration with designers, visual artists, filmmakers, puppeteers, musicians, composers, actors and dancers.
