[Mini Science Show] Glowing in the Dark
Published on 29 Mar 2021

Where there is colour, there is light! From red roses to green leaves to a glowing firefly, the wonderful colours we see in our beautiful world are all the result of the energy conversion involving unbelievably tiny particles – electrons. This show looks at the science of colour and light through a series of stimulating laboratory demonstrations. Come and explore the secrets behind our colourful world!

After the show, play the mini-game at: https://croucherscienceweek.hk/360-virtual-lab/ after the show to experience a 360° VR laboratory and collect the tools needed for the experiment!

Special thanks to Dr Ho Yu Au-Yeung who has contributed to this programme.

Dr Ho Yu Au-Yeung a Croucher Scholar. Dr Au-Yeung is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at The University of Hong Kong. Ho Yu received his BSc and PhD in Chemistry from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Cambridge respectively. His current research focuses on the design and synthesis of novel molecular systems with new properties. He would like to share his passion for chemistry, to show the beauty and excitement of science with students and the general public.
